Closing Ceremony Of Mother Of The Nation To Light Up The Abu Dhabi Skyline With Year Of Zayed Drone Show

In tribute to the deeply-rooted values and cherished principles of the late founder of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) will present the second ‘Year of Zayed Drone Show’ tonight (Saturday) at 8:20 pm, the Middle-East’s first-of-its-kind drone light show, for the closing ceremony of the Mother of the Nation Festival.

Closing this edition’s Festival with spectacular scenes across the Abu Dhabi Corniche, the sky will light up with 500 Intel® Shooting Star™ Drones, creating a new form of night-time entertainment and storytelling. The LED-emitting drones will hover several metres high above visitors crowding the Abu Dhabi Corniche to usher out the third edition of the Mother of the Nation Festival. Lasting for more than 5 minutes, the drones will form into the official logo of the Year of Zayed to pay tribute to the nation’s founding father and his inspirational values through mesmerising shapes and symbols.

The third edition of the Mother of the Nation Festival launched in celebration of the inspirational legacy of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation and Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, who was also honoured by the League of Arab States recently and given the title of "Mother of Humanity-Mother of the Arabs” in recognition of her efforts in supporting Arab women and promoting their conditions in various domains.

A colourful fireworks spectacle is also set to light up the Abu Dhabi evening sky as part of the closing festivities. Always a fan favourite, this year’s pyrotechnics display will stretch out along a 600m length of water aboard seven barges. The fireworks are expected to reach as high as 900m as they paint the night sky in dazzling silver, gold and the colours of the UAE flag, creating a vista that should be seen for miles around.

Throughout the festival, the Main Stage has played host to some of the biggest artists and tonight is no different – percussionist and table player Daneel Sayegh will open up the festival’s final performances followed by headlining superstar Adel Ibrahim, in between sets from MC Jad Haidar.

This year, the Festival featured more than 100 activities, including art, music and interactive workshops for the whole family to enjoy. Where the Mother of the Nation Pavilion at the heart of the festival explored the impact of Emirati women on the country from the past to the present day, while also showcasing the visionary values of HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, including empowerment, conservation, cooperation and sustainability.

Taking place at the newly-inaugurated A’l Bahar along the Abu Dhabi Corniche, the third edition of the Mother of the National festival concludes tonight (Saturday 31st March). The go-to family event features a host of unique family leisure experiences across multiple and diverse activity zones for an entertaining and highly interactive atmosphere that welcomes people from all walks of life. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the festival entrance for AED 25 per adult and AED 15 for children under 12, while children aged 5 and under along with people of determination and those above 60 are admitted for free.
